I Have No Attic Access
Years of inspecting houses taught me that it is not always easy to find an access to the attic.
I have no attic access. It would be easier if you have an attic that allows you to take a closer look at the area under your roof and see possible entry points of water. Buildings with combustible ceiling or roof construction shall have an attic access opening to attic areas that have a vertical height of 30 inches 762 mm or greater over an area of not less than 30 square feet 2 8 m 2 the vertical height shall be measured from the top of the ceiling framing members to the underside of the roof framing members. If there really is no attic access you should ask the seller to install an opening as part of the requirement in all real estate sales contracts that access be provided for the buyer to the property for inspection. Your joists should be in your lighting design plan.
A critical part of the property is not accessible so do not go forward with the transaction until it is. You are right to be concerned. Look no further we will show you how. Plus it folds up and seals the attic flat when you don t need access.
But if you don t have any access to your attic it would be a pain to do so. If you have a big enough closet considee putting in an attic hatch which has an inregrated ladder stair. A pull down attic stairway is great but some homes have only. If you can t get to the joist spaces then you will need to remove about 12 to 16 inches of drywall from your ceiling with a hand held drywall saw.
Step 1 turn the power off to the circuit if you are replacing an existing ceiling light. 2 the attic access opening may have been removed during a remodeling. Do you want to know how to find a roof leak with or without attic access. I always recommend people get a light switch installed and an attic light at least one.
Which makes access a breeze. If the circuit is already there installing a ceiling fan without attic access takes about an hour.
