Pull out nails that are holding felt to the roof using the sharp end of a claw. Remove old felt from the roof with your hands and a putty knife. Apply pressure and chisel away at it until it comes loose. Ensure the felt remains even and straight as you work.
Use a chalkline or align it by eye to make sure it is straight then drive roofing nails every foot or so to fasten it to the sheathing. A few roofing nails are not going to cause much problem but if you are wary of this happening you can lay down a tarp around the areas that are likely to catch some of these nails. Tack it in place at the corner with the end flush with the end of the roof and the bottom edge of the roll right along the bottom of the roof. Grab loose pieces of felt and pull them off the roof with your hands. Wood splinters should also be pulled out for a smooth clean decking surface. Cut drip edge flashing at an angle at the corner press it lightly against the eave end not too hard or you will misshape it and drive a nail near the end.
