How to install metal hip roof. We re going to install it using z trim and you have the option of using either pop rivets for a hidden fastener application or you can use stitch screws. Use your neoprene washer head screws to secure the metal to the sheathing. This is a 6 12 pitch roof but a hip cap for a 6 12 is not going to be as tight as a ridge cap for a 6 12 so you wouldn t want to use your hip trim on the ridge cap. Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it.

Space the screws about 12 in 30 cm apart. Nail the jack rafters to the hip rafters and secure them to the walls. Now that we ve installed panel on both sides of the hip we can install the hip cap. Otherwise when you start putting all the screws in it s going to pull and fight creating some waves all the way down.

For exposed fasteners avoid over tightening the fastener. Make sure that the screws are all aligned evenly as you will be able to see them from the ground if they are.
